Steer and improve

Z

The first answer often sounds finished. It rarely is. You steer: goal, context, form — and one thing to improve.

Goal: You learn to steer. A fluent answer isn't the end point yet.

Use made-up or public information: no real names, client or money data.

Predict first

What do you expect?

What do you expect: will a second version be better if you name one shortcoming concretely?

Do it

Steer and improve

Example from Z
Weak“Make this better.”
Better“Goal: an invitation colleagues understand in ten seconds. Context: informal team of eight. Form: four sentences at most, day and time first. One thing to improve: the tone is too stiff.”
Visible mistakeThe new version said “Tuesday”, but the lunch is on Thursday. Nobody had given that day.
Correction“Set the day to Thursday; leave the rest as it is.” You always check facts yourself.

From version 1 to version 2

  1. Take your draft from module 1, or make a new draft.
  2. Name one shortcoming.
  3. Give goal, context and desired form, and ask for version 2.
  4. Compare and choose: version 1, version 2 or do it yourself, with a reason.

Extra practice: ask your AI to explain one tile of the Regime dashboard (for example the weather tile) to a twelve-year-old. Does it sound too sure? Steer once.

Check

Is it really better?

  • Is the shortcoming gone in version 2? Point to the sentence where you see it.
  • Did something appear that you didn't ask for, like a fact, a promise or a number? It's unknown until you check it.
Decide

Was version 2 better because of your steering or by chance? What will you give right away next time?
